Sperm, the meaning, function, tips and facts

Sperm

What is sperm?

Sperm are sperm cells that are released during ejaculation. The substance is generally thick and sticky. Before ejaculation, pre-ejaculate is often also released. The color of sperm varies from person to person and can range from white to yellowish-white. The sperm cells resemble tadpoles. Sperm cells are produced in the testicles, and the epididymis serves as a storage place for the sperm cells. When an orgasm occurs, around 3 milliliters of sperm are usually ejaculated. This can contain as many as 300-350 million sperm cells. They are so microscopically small that 1 drop can contain as many as 120 million sperm cells. Of the total, approximately 10% consists of sperm cells. The remaining 90% consists of seminal fluid and fluids from the seminal vesicles that are added from the prostate.

The route of sperm

When ejaculation takes place, sperm cells are launched from the epididymis into the vas deferens. The sperm cells then pass through the prostate, where seminal fluid is also added to the sperm. After this, the sperm travels through the urethra for ejaculation. The ureter, which also leads to the urethra, is closed off, allowing ejaculation to take place without urine being added. Sperm is ejaculated during an orgasm at speeds of up to 45 kilometers per hour!

Temperature of sperm

Men’s testicles often hang at a reasonable distance below the body. This is not without reason. An ideal temperature of 33 to 34 degrees is required to produce sperm. The scrotum also contains a muscle that regulates the distance from the body and therefore the internal temperature of the scrotum. This ensures that favorable conditions for sperm production are maintained. By hanging lower, the testicles can cool down, and when they are pulled closer to the body, they can warm up. The body is a wonderful machine!

Sperm quality

The quality of sperm depends on several factors. Quality is assessed based on 3 factors: the number of sperm cells in the sperm, their motility, and the shape of the sperm cells in the sperm.
A man may naturally have a risk of infertility due to genetics, but men also have a great deal of influence on sperm quality through lifestyle factors. As we read earlier, sperm cells remain at their optimal quality at temperatures of approximately 33 to 35 degrees, so it is important that they do not overheat. Cooks, for example, may be at risk of infertility because they often stand close to the stove with their testicles. Excessive sauna visits, for example, are also not beneficial for sperm cells. Anabolic steroids can lead to infertility in men and a reduction in quality. Being overweight can also cause a reduction in testosterone and therefore affect sperm quality. In addition, alcohol use, smoking, and drugs also have a negative effect on quality. Stress also plays a major role in sperm quality. However, there are also ways to improve sperm quality! A healthy diet can improve sperm quality, especially vegetables and fruit. In addition, regular strength training increases testosterone and therefore sperm production. In general, it can therefore be said that an unhealthy lifestyle leads to a reduction in sperm quality, while a healthy lifestyle increases quality.

Freezing sperm

By freezing sperm, the sperm cells are essentially placed into storage. The sperm cells are stored in liquid nitrogen at a temperature of -196°C. Men often have this done before starting chemotherapy in order to preserve the quality of their sperm cells. Multiple ejaculations are often frozen.

Promoting sperm production

As mentioned earlier, it is possible to improve sperm quality. A healthy lifestyle is crucial for this. To keep sperm cells at optimal quality, it is important to eat healthily. Maintain a healthy weight, get enough exercise, and do not smoke and/or use drugs. The development of sperm cells takes approximately three months. So, if you and your partner decide to have children, it is recommended to start living healthily at least three months in advance to maintain sperm quality.

Swallowing sperm (what does sperm taste like)

The taste of sperm can vary depending on the food you eat. It is said that if you eat a lot of fruit, the taste of sperm may resemble lukewarm sweet fruit milk. However, opinions are divided. In a questionnaire, women and men were asked to describe what sperm tastes like. This resulted in some hilarious responses. As you can see below, the responses vary quite considerably.

  • ‘’It tastes like chestnuts, bitter and nutty’’.
  • ‘’The taste is like bitter and salty protein’’.
  • ‘’How do I think it tastes? Like thin, lukewarm snot’’.
  • ‘’ I think it has a buttery taste’’.
  • ‘’If you’re lucky, it tastes like a wheat beer’’.
  • ‘’ I think sperm tastes like salty balloons’
  • ‘’Like slimy pool water’’

How do you get more sperm?

In most porn videos, men appear who have huge ejaculations with quantities of the substance that are nowhere near those of the average man. This is often fake, but some men may feel insecure about the amount of sperm released during ejaculation and would like to have an ejaculation with more sperm. Fortunately, we have some ways for you to achieve an ejaculation with more sperm!

  • The most effective way is simply to orgasm less often. The moment of your first ejaculation is something that many men remember. There was usually a lot of sperm released. The biggest difference, of course, is that until then you had never ejaculated before. And this already gives some indication of the extent to which the frequency of ejaculation affects the amount of sperm. So it helps to ejaculate less often and therefore masturbate less. Every time you ejaculate, your body has to produce sperm again. So save your ejaculation for the moment when it matters! Namely, when you have sex! This way, you are assured of an ejaculation with a large amount of sperm if that is what you are looking for.
  • Make sure you drink enough water. It actually makes sense that your body needs water to produce sperm because it is a fluid, so you need to replenish this with water. For an ejaculation with enough sperm, it is therefore recommended to drink at least 2 liters of water per day. However, the more water you drink, such as 3 to 4 liters of water, the more you will produce during ejaculation. Be careful! You can also drink too much water; never drink that much water all at once, but spread it throughout the day in small sips. So make sure you have a bottle of water nearby and refill it throughout the day so you can keep track of how much you drink.
  • Make sure you have the right building blocks! To produce more sperm, your body needs other building blocks in addition to water. The most important ones for sperm production are folic acid and zinc. According to scientific research, taking these two supplements can increase sperm production by 74%. Taking zinc is only useful if you also take folic acid. Otherwise, it will not lead to increased sperm production because your body cannot process the zinc. The guidelines are approximately 1mg of folic acid and 15mg of zinc. But this is an excellent way to get more sperm!
  • To continue with the building blocks needed for sperm production, protein is necessary and is also the best building block for sperm production. There is even so much protein in sperm that it could be consumed as a protein shake! It consists of 50% protein! The sperm cells are in the sperm, and the heads of these sperm cells are the ones that need the protein. Protein consists of amino acids, and the most important ones for sperm production are L-arginine, L-carnitine, and L-lysine. The easiest way is to also take these in a dietary supplement.
  • Of course, it is always good to stop smoking, but if you want more sperm, that is certainly one of the things recommended. Smoking has a very negative effect on sperm production and also on sperm quality. It is also the case that when you smoke as a father, a child can be born with medical problems purely because of the sperm! Alcohol is also very bad for sperm production and quality. Alcohol dehydrates the body, and as we have already learned, good hydration is extremely important for sperm production. So, to produce a large amount during ejaculation that is also of good quality, it is recommended to stop smoking and drinking or at least reduce your consumption.
  • Another important cause of reduced sperm production is stress. As we all know, stress is unhealthy. When experiencing stress, we produce the hormone cortisol. This hormone is very bad for the body when it is chronic because it also suppresses testosterone production. And since testosterone is the male hormone, it plays an extremely important role in sperm production. Take moments to relax. A walk, yoga, or meditation can help reduce stress during the day. Start tackling stress now and not only become healthier but also get the ejaculation with more sperm that you want!
  • The final tip for more sperm is to exercise more! Sperm production depends on how well your body functions. Better blood circulation through exercise is very important for sperm production. Cardio in particular is good for better blood circulation, but strength training produces more testosterone, which in turn leads to increased sperm production. For optimal results, do both forms of exercise! Feel good and produce more sperm—a win-win situation!

How long does sperm live?

Sperm cells can survive in the vagina, uterus, and fallopian tubes for at least 72 hours. Sperm cells also remain fertile for 48 hours after ejaculation. If sperm is not ejaculated, it is broken down after approximately one month and reabsorbed into the body.

Facts about sperm

The sperm cell was discovered by a Dutchman, namely Antoni van Leeuwenhoek. In 1677, he examined his sperm under a microscope and saw enormous numbers of moving tadpoles, namely sperm cells!
The farthest ejaculation is 6 meters; this remarkable feat was performed by the American Horst Schultz.
